NEWBOLD ROAD (South West Side) Former Chesterfield Union Workhouse (Scarsdale Hospital)

2. 1840. Originally built as the Chesterfield Union Workhouse. Red brick with stone dressings and stone bands between 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd floors. Slate roof, centre white cupola with 4 round arches and modillion cornice. 4 storeys. 1 centre window on each floor flanked by full height brick bays each containing 3 windows Generally sashes with glazing bars, the ground floor unbarred. Bays terminate in pediments with stone cornices. Side of block also pedimented. Centre rusticated stone arch.
