Description
House. Probably C14, C16, early C19, heavily restored in early C20. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings. Close studded timber framing. Red brick to north. Plain tile roof with stone coped gable to west. One lateral brick stack. Chamfered stringcourse and eaves band. Brick dentil eaves cornice to north. One and two storeys, with a basement to west. Two-bay south elevation of hall and crosswing. The left hand part has a 3-light window of three trefoiled lancet lights. Around the corner on the west elevation are a flight of stone steps up to a pointed arched doorway with chamfered surround and a 4-light window above of four trefoiled lancets, with a relieving arch above. All the detailing looks C20. The gabled crosswing on the south elevation has exposed close studded timber framing, flanked by stone buttresses with two and three set-offs. Stone plinth. The ground floor has a middle rail and a 5-light wooden mullioned and transomed oriel window on brackets. The first floor is jettied out and is coved beneath the sill level. 5-light wooden mullioned and transomed window. The windows on the south side have diamond pattern leaded lights. The north elevation has irregular C19 and C20 fenestration. The north end of the crosswing was extended in brick in the early C19. Single storey range of garages attached to north, not of special interest. The interior has stud partitions and heavily moulded exposed beams. Four-centred arched stone fireplaces. The hall has a fitted bench around two sides, apparently medieval.
