'SK 35 SW PARISH OF CRICH BOWNS HILL 3/4 (East Side) The Black Swan P.H. and attached 'L' shaped range of outbuildings to the north-east. GV II
Public house and attached outbuildings. Late C18, with the street frontage re-fashioned c1900. Coursed squared rubble gritstone, with ashlar dressings, plain gables, end ridge stacks, with corbelled caps to street elevation, plain tiles and concrete tiles. The house and outbuildings are arranged around a small courtyard. Main range, street elevation, two storeys, four bays, that to the north end single storeyed and advanced. Three bays rise off a chamfered plinth, with three canted bay windows with glazing bar sash windows. Above, a tiled continuous canopy, stepped up into a gable above off centre doorway with moulded door surround with segmental arched head, panelled door, and two glazing bar sashes and a 2-light casement amidst thin sectioned imitation half timbering to first floor Single storeyed advanced bay with blank rendered front to north end. 'L' shaped range of outbuildings, north end. Two storeys, three bays, with three doorways with massive jambs and lintels, two coupled at west end, and a tall cart entry with a depressed segmental arch, keyblock and with flanked doors to the east, a blocked stone framed window and a doorway with a quoined surround. At first floor level, two 2-light flush mullioned windows with sash frames, and a 2-light glazing bar horizontal sash in a plain surround. East outbuilding, single storey with plain doorway and opening to south, possibly a feeding trough.
