Description

'SK 34 SW PARISH OF QUARNDON CHURCH ROAD 3/90 (East Side) Chalybeate Wellhouse 13.2.67 II Well house. Early C19. Rock-faced sandstone and sandstone ashlar. Built into the hillside with rock-faced retaining wall. Single storey with single bays flanking a canted projection. Two plain bands and embattled and coped parapet. Canted projection has a three bay open arcade with pointed arches. To the left, a doorway with pointed arch and plank door. To the right a blind window with pointed arch. Iron railings within the arcade, enclosing the former pool within. Plaque inscribed: C17 Chalybeate/Spring Well/once famous Spa noted for medicinal waters/containing iron/Visited by/Daniel Defoe in 1727. Listing NGR: SK3326740408.'
