Description

Farmhouse. 1605 and early C17, extended in C19. Coursed squared coal measures sandstone with ashlar dressings, quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, central stone ridge stack and stone slated roof. Central lobby entrance plan. South elevation. Two storeys, two bays, with off-centre doorway having a massive quoined surround and lintel below a hoodmould with label stops, which extends over flanking window to west. Weathered inscription to lintel reads: A:G 1605(?). C20 half glazed and panelled door. Ground floor windows of four chamfer mullioned lights, those to the first floor of 3-lights, all below hoodmoulds with stops. West gable with stacked chamfer mullioned windows of 2 and 3-lights. Rear range C19 with a single stack and C20 tripartite casements beneath heavy lintels. C20 gabled porch to east elevation in C17 vernacular style. Interior. The two main ground floor rooms have oak spine beams and joists, with C17 chamfer stops. Principal hearth with quoined surround and a massive lintel, and small C17 spice cupboard with C17 oak door. Parlour hearth with cambered lintel. The house was refurbished in 1982-4. Listing NGR: SK3731678792
