Description

'PARISH OF ECKINGTON CARTERHALL LANE (Off) SK 38 SE 1/68 Carter Hall Farmhouse 31.1.67 (formerly listed as Carter Hall) GV II Farmhouse. Dated 169? with C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Coursed squared coal measures sandstone with advanced quoins, coped gables with plain and moulded kneelers, ashlar gable stacks, plain tile and stone slate roofs. East elevation. Symmetrical front, two storeys, five bays, with central three bays below gable pediment, having a round window with a band surround. 2-light windows, now with C20 casements, formerly mullioned, with plain band surrounds. Heads to windows are linked by continuous band courses, with additional projections above the window heads. Central doorway with eared architrave, frieze, cornice, with shield of arms above. The doorway is enclosed by a C19 half glazed gabled porch with decorative bargeboards. The rear elevation has a stepped external stack and a flush mullioned and transomed stair window. Lower two storey range attached at north end, with massive stone surround to doorway, and 3-light horizontal sash windows with glazing bars. Interior contains a C18 slat baluster staircase.
