Description

Barn and attached outbuilding. Early C17 with mid C18 additions. Coursed squared coal measures sandstone, rendered in part and a concrete tiled roof. East elevation. Two storeys, five bays, the central bay with a tall quoined double doorway with a timber lintel, above which is a shallow stone relieving arch. The lintel has sockets for harr-hung doors. At eaves level, there are a row of bird openings and perches. A gabled single storey range has been added at the north end of the rear elevation. Interior. Four roof trusses support C20 sawn softwood purlins and rafters. Trusses have queen struts and collars and no longer support a ridge purlin. The tie beams are supported by back purlins, except at the north end of the east wall, where the tie beam is sitting on a jowel post from which rise longitudinal braces to the wall plate, and a transverse brace to the tie beam. Attached outbuilding to the east, at north end, has three quoined doorways to the south wall, and two C20 windows. The north wall has two quoined first floor openings with planked doors.
