BRAMPTON SK37SW HALLCLIFF LANE 1264-0/2/107 (South side) Outbuilding at Hallcliff Farm

Farm outbuilding. Late C16, with C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Coursed squared Coal Measures Sandstone with massive quoins beneath corrugated sheeting roof. North-east elevation is of a single storey except at the south-east end, which is floored. 4 bays, with C20 flat-roofed addition at south-east end, and 3 single doorways, and one now blocked. 3 window openings, some with glazing bars, that to the north-west end with a hopper opening. INTERIOR: formerly wholly cruck-framed, now with 2 extant trusses. Single purlin roof with a ridge purlin. Tie-beam missing from south-eastern truss, and collar missing from north-western truss, and both trusses retain curved windbraces on the south-west side, which are face-halved and cross-lapped. Splay-scarf jointed purlins are notched into the backs of the trusses. The ridge purlin is set flat on a plain table yoke. The truss at the north-west end is a C20 replacement.
