Description
House, disused and derelict at time of survey (June 1992). C16 with C17 and late C18 alterations. Cruck-framed and box-framed with outer walls replaced by sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. Corrugated asbestos roof. L-plan. 2 storeys. The south wall has a gabled cross-wing at the left with 2 windows of 2 lights with flat-faced mullions on each floor. At the right the main wall is of 2 bays and has a plain stone window surround at the right, with a flat-faced mullion, and 1st floor windows with stone surrounds. The left-hand bay contains a doorway with quoined surround. The left-hand return wall of the cross-wing has a 3-light window with flat-faced mullions on the ground floor, a window to the left with stone surround, and a 1st floor window with a stone surround and with its mullions removed. The east gable of the house has a ground-floor window with plain reveals, and a 1st floor window of 2 lights with flat-faced mullion. Part of the rear wallplate is visible. INTERIOR: A cruck truss remains, dividing the north-south cross-wing into 2 unequal bays. 2 western posts indicate that the east-west range was timber-framed. The front door opens into a lobby against back-to-back hearths, with a shouldered stone fireplace facing into the west room.
