'SK37SW 1264-0/2/106 31/01/67 BRAMPTON GREEN LANE (North side) The Old Barracks (Formerly Listed as: CUTTHORPE The Old Barracks at Cutthorpe Hall) GV II Farm outbuilding. Early C17. Coursed rubble Coal Measures Sandstone with ashlar dressings, quoins, coped north gable with moulded kneelers and finial platform, and a stone slated roof. East elevation of 4 storeys and 3 bays built into rising ground, so that the entry to the upper 2 floors is from the higher western side. 2 ground-floor openings. One, to the west end, has a quoined surround, with a massive lintel. The other, to the south end, is an insertion, and the opening is plain. Between the 2 doors, a single-light C17 window with a moulded surround. Above, a second single-light C17 opening, then an undivided rectangular opening, and at third-floor level, a framed timber 3-light mullioned window with internal shutters. West elevation with a flight of stone steps leading to the entry to the third floor, the landing set above an arched entry to the floor below. The south gable, which overlooks the garden to Cutthorpe Hall (qv), is embellished with chamfered mullioned windows with dripmoulds. INTERIOR: the roof is of queenstrut construction, the trusses supporting single side purlins and a diagonally set ridge purlin. The 2 trusses have windbraces to either side. The interior has been originally plastered throughout. Listing NGR: SK3451173064.'
