Description
Ice House. Mid-C18. Brick with sandstone dressings. Circular in plan with a short entrance passage to the north. The circular part descents about ten feet below ground and about eight feet to the top of the dome, which has a small circular shoot hole at the top. Externally the ice house is covered with earth and only the outer entrance with stone jambs and lintel is visible. Inner door with four raised and fielded panels. The ice house was built to serve Sutton Scarsdale Hall.
