Description

'SK 21 76 PARISH OF EYAM CHURCH STREET 6/34 (North Side) Gates and attached walls and 12-7-67 Terrace to S of Eyam Hall (formerly listed as 'Gate- piers and Gates at The Hall') GV II Gates, terrace and attached walls. Late C17. Gritstone and iron. Three semi- circular steps up to central gates. Square piers with raised bands. Panels between with incised decorative motifs. Moulded cornice, topped by large banded ball finials. Early C20 iron gates in C18 style. Attached either side, coursed square gritstone walls with chamfered copings. Scrolled wing brackets at junction between piers and copings. To west, later quoined chamfered gateway, through wall, with moulded square capitals. Wooden gate in C17 manner. Attached to north, stepped gritstone walls joining house at western and eastern corners of 1676 section. Chamfered flush quoined doorcases near the house to east and west. Both with raised and fielded and panelled doors. Through eastern door, a flight of five semi- circular steps to garden. To front of house a raised paved terrace with coursed squared gritstone retaining wall with chamfered copings. Central flight of steps. Listing NGR: SK2163876463.'
