Description

SK 26 SW PARISH OF STANTON IN THE PEAK MIDDLE STREET 4/70 (South Side) Range of Outbuildings to W of Stanton Hall GV II Range of outbuildings round a courtyard. Early C19 with later additions. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Graduated slate and plain tile roofs, with stone coped gables and western stone gable end stack to northern range. Two storeys with single storey additions, five bay northern range with four bay western range and three bay eastern and south- eastern ranges. North range has central flush quoined doorcase with uneven glazing bar sashes in flush surrounds to either side. To east a flush doorcase and beyond a blocked, flush window. To west a line of quoins and a large segmental headed arch with adjoining flush quoined doorcase. Above two flush hayloft openings to east and three horizontal sliding sashes to west in flush openings. Over central doorcase a re-used, early C18, cartouche. Western range comprises four segmental-headed arches with double plank doors, and eastern range has three plain sashes in flush surrounds with flush doorcase to north and re-used stone plaque between southern windows inscribed 'Many a day in labour and sorrow I have spent but now I find no riches like content, SDA 1751'. South-eastern range comprises a flush doorcase to east with three cambered arches to south with double doors. Included for group value only. Listing NGR: SK2408864239
