Description

'BAKEWELL SK2168 BUXTON ROAD 831-1/4/63 (South West side) 07/01/70 Rutland Chambers (Formerly Listed as: RUTLAND SQUARE (South West side) Premises occupied by P. Roose) GV II House now office. Early-mid C18. Roughly-coursed limestone with ashlar sandstone dressings; stone slate roof, C20 concrete tiles to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 3-window range. Short wing to rear. Original house occupies the 2 bays on right and has large quoins and near-central doorway with canopy on shaped wooden brackets. Square-faced mullioned windows of 3 lights to left of door and 2 lights elsewhere; wooden casements with leaded lights. Evidence of heightening or rebuilding at eaves level. Bay 1 is later C18 and has part-glazed door with similar canopy on left of an enlarged 2-light mullioned window with cemented surround; 2-light window over as rest. Ashlar sandstone end stack to right; reconstituted stone ridge stack to left of bay 2. Rear: wing has a 2-light double-chamfered mullioned window. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK2168268534.'
