Description

'BAKEWELL SK2168 BAGSHAW HILL 831-1/4/7 (South side (off)) 20/05/74 The Nook and Studio House (Formerly Listed as: BAGSHAW HILL SOUTHERN SECTION (South side) Ridgeway and The Nook) GV II Pair of houses. C18 origin, rebuilt C19. Coursed limestone; stone slate roof partly replaced by concrete tiles; brick stacks. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2:2 windows to first floor. Studio House (on right): 6-panel door to left has top 2 panels glazed and triangular-soffit lintel; ashlar doorcase with engaged Doric columns and entablature with name panel. Multiple-pane horizontally-sliding sashes with projecting sills, ashlar surrounds and dripstones (ground floor only). Between the ground-floor windows is a 16-pane casement in shallow ashlar projection. External steps to far right lead to side-passage door beneath eaves. The Nook: three-quarter length conservatory/porch encloses 2 doorways with triangular-soffit lintels and a horizontally-sliding sash window. Ground-floor window beyond conservatory on left and those to first floor are as Studio House. Range has brick end stack on left and 3 ridge stacks; all with stone bands. INTERIOR: only The Nook inspected. Exposed reused oak lintels which probably indicate the rebuilding of an earlier house on the site. The cottages are situated on a steep footpath from Buxton Road to Bagshaw Hill; the path is referred to as 'Up the Chimney'. Listing NGR: SK2167368597.'
