Garden Seat and Sundial in
garden to south-west of
Lomberdale Hall

Garden seat and sundial. Medieval fragments, re-used c1844. Stone. Garden seat to west has stone walls with re-used stones to three sides and is open to east side with felted roof above. The back wall has an early C14 blind arcade with cusped stone tracery across the full width and the side walls have various C13 and C14 gravestones embedded in them. To south wall is a C19 stone plaque inscribed 'Time grows young in a garden'. Down path to east stands the sundial on a re-used medieval column. Both were erected by Thomas Bateman the archaeologist who designed, and lived,at Lomberdale Hall. Included for group value only.
