Description

'SK 17 SE PARISH OF ASHFORD IN THE WATER LONGSTONE LANE 3/51 (West Side) Garden walls, gates and urns, south of woodlands, Thornbridge Hall GV II Garden walls, gates and row of urns. c1903. Limestone rubble, gritstone dressings and wrought iron. Plain square stone piers to either side, topped by urn finials, fluted to base and decorated with foliage swags and horseshoe motifs. Double gates to centre with arrowheads to base, vertical bars above with scroll decoration to sides and centre. Curling scroll decoration to top. To sides, fixed gates in similar style. Attached to west, curved and stepped rubble wall with moulded copings, running to south. Attached to east, similar wall, curving round garden to north with Tudor-style gateway, approximately 6 metres to north. Four-centre arch incised into lintel, moulded jambs. Stepped parapets over, Directly north of gates, low attached walls finishing after a metre in short flight of steps with short rubble piers either side, topped by large ball finials. Beyond, to north, line of three pairs of urns lining the drive. Each urn on plain pier. Elaborate fluted and scrolled base, fluted sides decorated with figure scenes. Above, bell-like lid, topped by flame finial. Listing NGR: SK1973770984.'
