Description

'BAKEWELL SK2168 NORTH CHURCH STREET 831-1/4/142 (North side) 20/05/74 1820 Cottage, Spire and Hillside Cottage and railings to Hillside Cottage (Formerly Listed as: NORTH CHURCH STREET (North side) The Tea Cottage and 2 Cottages adjoining The Tea Cottage to west) GV II Row of 3 houses. Possibly late C18 but rain-water head dated 1820; some alterations. Deeply-coursed punched sandstone with ashlar dressings, limestone to side and rear; Welsh slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, one window to each house on each floor. Ashlar plinth and large quoins; raised surrounds with projecting stone sills. 1820 Cottage to left: door of 6 flush panels (upper 2 panels glazed) set to right of 8/8 sashes on ground and first floors; 4/8 sash to second floor. House in centre (Spire) matches 1820 Cottage but is opposite handed. Hillside Cottage repeats the form of Spire but is altered: part-glazed door approached by stone steps to a stone landing with iron handrail set above a boarded cellar door; rectangular shop window to ground-floor right; C20 casements above. The row has eaves band and moulded cornice; between 1820 Cottage and Spire is a decorative downpipe with hopper dated 'G H 1820'. Blue brick end stacks and stack to front of ridge between Spire and Hillside Cottage. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK2165668508.'
