Description

'BAKEWELL SK2168 WATER LANE 831-1/4/178 (West side) National Westminster Bank GV II Bank. Late C19. Dressed and ashlar sandstone, concrete tile roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic, 5 bays to Water Lane. Chamfered plinth, large quoins; various mullioned and transomed windows linked by flush sill bands and lintel bands. Bay 4 has double door beneath cusped and leaded transom lights in Tudor-arched surround with hoodmould and carved finial. Bay 5 is gabled and has 3-light banking hall window with colonnettes; cross window to first floor and 3-light mullioned window to attic; dripmoulds. Bay 2, also gabled, with double-chamfered doorway to bank chambers on left of single-light window with coloured and leaded glass; stair window above of 3 lights with 2 transoms; coloured and leaded glass; small window to gable. Bay 1 with 3-light window beneath cross window; bay 3 with cross window to each floor; bay 4 with single-light window above main door. Moulded eaves cornice. Gablet kneelers, copings, carved finial to bay 5. Ashlar end stack to bay 1. Generally C20 casements to ground floor, plain sashes to first floor and iron casements to the attic. Right return (to Rutland Square): moulded single-light windows with colonnettes flank ashlar corbelling to an oriel bay window of 1:2:1 lights beneath hipped roof with lead finial; end gable on right. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK2182968530.'
