Description
'SK 21 76 PARISH OF EYAM CHURCH STREET 6/31 (North Side) 12-7-67 Plague Cottage and Rose Cottage (formerly listed as part of 'Plague Cottages') GV II
House and attached cottage. C17, refracted in C18, C20 alterations. Coursed gritstone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins to west of Rose Cottage. Stone slate roofs. Stone gable end stacks, also stone ridge stack to Rose Cottage. Stone coped gable with moulded kneeler to west of Rose Cottage. Two storeys. Plague cottage, single bay. Rose Cottage, three bays with flush doorcase and panelled door. To east, horizontal sliding sash in flush surround, formerly mullioned. Two similar windows to west of door and three similar above. To east, Plague Cottage has similar windows above and below with flush doorcase and C20 door to east. Historical association with the Eyam plague of 1666.
