Description

'SK 23 81 PARISH OF HATHERSAGE MAIN ROAD 6/36 (South Side) Milepost 20 yards to the south west of the entrance to Hathersage Hall II Milepost.Early C19 Cast iron milepost, triangular in section, with a dished top, and two faces with inscriptions. North east facade reads: 'HATHERSAGE. CASTLETON 6 MILES, CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH 12 MILES'. South west face reads 'SHEFFIELD 10 MILES'. The milepost is associated with the route of the Sheffield to Manchester Turnpike, which was begin in mid C18. Listing NGR: SK2331681584.'
