'SK 23 81 PARISH OF HATHERSAGE MAIN ROAD 6/36 (South Side) Milepost 20 yards to the south west of the entrance to Hathersage Hall II
Milepost.Early C19 Cast iron milepost, triangular in section, with a dished top, and two faces with inscriptions. North east facade reads: 'HATHERSAGE. CASTLETON 6 MILES, CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH 12 MILES'. South west face reads 'SHEFFIELD 10 MILES'. The milepost is associated with the route of the Sheffield to Manchester Turnpike, which was begin in mid C18.
