Description
Railway station platform wall. 1861-62. By Edward Walker for the Midland Railway. Deeply-coursed dressed sandstone. 6-bay wall of blind arcading which formerly supported a glazed ridge and furrow canopy. Plain pilasters linked by ashlar band set below moulded segmental arches. Central doorway to bay 2; blocked window and door to bay 4. Coped parapet which slopes down at each end; stack rises from lean-to office set behind bays 3 and 4. The line opened 1st August 1862 following the Midland Railway (Rowsley and Buxton) Act of 25th May 1860; closed 1967. Forms part of the railway complex at the former Bakewell Railway Station (qv).
