Description

'This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 25 October 2022 to correct a typo in the description, remove superfluous amendment details and to reformat the text to current standards SK 16 SE 1/47 PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL Smerrill Grange 12.7.67 II Farmhouse. Late C16, on possibly medieval grange site, with C18 and C19 refashioning. Massive coursed gritstone, coped gables, end and intermediate ridge stacks and stone slated roof. 'L' plan. South west elevation; two storey and two storey with attics. Gable at south east end has irregular fenestration with tall two and three-light recessed chamfer mullioned windows with ground floor and single light openings to first floor, with chamfered surrounds. Attic window has sash frame with single glazing bar. Range to north west with two-light window to ground floor and shallow three-light opening above, all with recessed chamfer mullions and undivided casement frames. Plain doorway with plank door incorporating a single light. South west elevation much refashioned. Off-centre doorway with heavily tooled surround, shallow flat hood on moulded brackets and half-glazed door with margin lights. Other elevations have two and three-light recessed chamfer mullioned openings and, in the angle of the two ranges, a pointed arched opening with chamfered surround. Listing NGR: SK1995061928.'
