'SK 32 NE 3/132 22.4.80 PARISH OF MELBOURNE KINGS NEWTON MAIN STREET (north side) Chantry Barn and Chantry Stables (Formerly listed as 'Barn to North-North-East of Chantry House') GV II Threshing barn and stables, now two houses. Early C19 with later additions and alterations, converted c1980. Red brick and stone rubble with plain tile roofs, plus brick gable stack to west, roof lights and dentilled eaves band. Two storey barn and single storey stables. Street elevation has a central full height opening to barn, now glazed, with slit breathers and two flat headed windows to west plus four diamond patterned breathers above, and a single storey range attached to east. This has a C20 glazed door and window to north and three sets of double plank doors to south. Rear elevation of barn, partly of stone rubble, has C20 addition to centre and C20 double doors and window to west with four diamond patterned breathers above. Interior has sawn timber king post trusses and the base of a large cruck truss cut off at collar height in the western ground floor room. Included for group value only. Listing NGR: SK3889726229.'
