'SK 38/3925 PARISH OF MELBOURNE CHURCH CLOSE 6/63 (East Side) 10.11.67 Pair of Pedestals Supporting Fruit Bowl Vase in Melbourne Hall Gardens (formerly as 'Pair of pedestals supporting vases on house terrace, Melbourne Hall) GV I Pair of pedestals supporting fruit bowl vases. Late C17. Incorporated into early C18 garden designed by Royal Gardeners to Queen Anne, London and Wise, for Thomas Coke of Melbourne Hall with work carried out by William Cooke of Walcot. Stone. Two similar pedestals and vases. Each has a plain pedestal on stepped plinth, with large lattice work basket over containing fruit and flowers, standing on a moulded tapering base. These probably belonged to the earlier formal garden at Melbourne Hall. Included in the Derbyshire Historic Gardens Register at Grade I.
