Description

'SK 21 SE PARISH OF NETHERSEAL CHURCH STREET 5/28 (South Side) 19.1.67 Nos 12-18 (odd) Richard Johnson Almshouses (formerly listed as No 1-6 Richard Johnson Almshouses') GV II Row of six almshouses, now four. 1699, with C20 alterations. Red brick with brick and stone dressings, and steeply pitched plain tile roof with moulded stone copings on plain brick kneelers, two brick gable stacks and two brick ridge stacks, plus a timber eaves band. Two storeys and six bays. To centre there is a passageway through the building with a chamfered stone doorcase and studded wooden door plus strap hinges. Above, is a stone panel inscribed 'These houses were built and these inhabitants are maintained by the charity of Richard Johnson, Gent, late of this towne. Anno Domini 1699'. To either side there are flat headed half glazed C20 plank doors and beyond there are segment headed 2-light casement windows. Beyond again to either side there are two small C20 windows in blocked segment headed openings and a segment headed half glazed plank door with 2-light segment headed window to far side. Above there are six small 2-light casement windows. Listing NGR: SK2882212850.'
