Description

'SK 21 NW PARISH OF WALTON-UPON-TRENT DRAKELOW ROAD 2/47 (East Side) 19.1.67 Barr Hall and Attached Farm buildings II Farmhouse and attached farm buildings. Mid C18, extended in early and mid C19 with minor later alterations. Farmhouse is of red brick with gauged brick dressings to front elevation and has a plain stone first floor band to mid C19 addition. Early C19 front range and mid C19 addition to west have hipped graduated slate roofs with brick side wall stacks and plain eaves bands. Rear mid C18 part has steeply pitched plain tile roof with brick gable stacks, brick coped gables and dentilled eaves band. Farm buildings also of red brick, have plain tile roofs with brick coped gables. Farmhouse is part three storeys and part two storeys, with garret to mid C18 part. Main front has four bays, with mid C19 bay slightly recessed to west. Steps lead up to central Roman Doric columned doorcase with plain entablature, double half glazed doors and fan traceried overlight. To either side there are wide glazing bar sashes and beyond to west is a taller glazing bar sash. Above there are three narrower similar sashes to east and one similar to west set much higher up. Above again to east there are three smaller similar sashes. All windows have flat brick arches. Rear elevation of the farmhouse has a mixture of segment headed and flat headed casement windows. Farm buildings attached to east have a low two storey range with first floor band running to east with higher archway to far end and barn at right angles with cowsheds beyond to south. Low range has segment headed doorcases and one 4-light segment headed window to west, with small casement windows above to west end. Archway to east is now partly blocked and barn has full height central double plank doors with breathers to either side, plus segment headed door, with 2-light window above, to south. Cowsheds have segment headed doors and inserted windows. Interior of farmhouse has early C19 stick baluster staircase, and reeded fireplaces and cornices to front rooms. Rear part has inglenook fireplaces, chamfered ceiling beams and C18 panelled doors. Listing NGR: SK2192918414.'
