'PARISH OF REPTON KNIGHT'S LANE SK 32 SW 5/69 (East Side) The Hayes (formerly listed 2:9.52 as Repton Hayes) II Small country house. Early C19. Cement rendered and painted plain tile overhanging roofs with decorative bargeboards. Four brick ridge stacks to main block and two more to service wings. Two storeys. East elevation of three gabled bays, the centre gable half-hipped. Large projecting porch with two circular castellated angle turrets, each with a gothic niche. The battlements corbelled out. Plain parapets between. Broad four centred stepped arch to entrance and to sides. Doorway flanked by buttresses. Half glazed door with decorative glazing and three gothic panels below. Flanked by stepped segmental pointed windows with sashes and decorative glazing. Three sashes above with similar glazing, under flat arches. Twin gabled north elevation has five similar segmental pointed windows to ground floor and five above under flat arches. Twin gabled south elevation of three bays has a C20 semi-circular conservatory on the right with a large gothic doorway within with French doors. Segmental pointed arched doorway and window to left with gothick glazing. Four glazing bar sashes above, the centre two grouped as a pair. Two painted brick ranges to west with dentil cornice and mostly segment headed windows. Possibly the remains of an earlier house on the site. Interior: some remaining coloured glass in the windows. Staircase with cast iron balusters and wreathed handrail, probably re-set. Fluted architraves. Carved oak Victorian chimneypieces. One late C18 style chimneypiece in an upper room.
