Description
'SK 43 SW PARISH OF ELVASTON BORROWASH ROAD 2/25 (West Side) Farmbuildings to West of St Bartholomew's Church at Elvaston Castle GV II Farmbuildings, now riding school and farm museum. Mid C19 with later additions and alterations. Built for the Earl of Harrington. Red brick with some stone rubble to south range and hipped plain tile roofs with dentilled eaves. U-plan, mostly single storey but with small two storey part to southern end of main range. Short northern range has three segment headed doorcases with stable doors to north elevation. East elevation of main range has five wide segment headed arches to north, now mostly blocked with inserted stable doors, and seven segment headed windows with lapped glass to south, plus three similar headed doorcases with plank doors. Beyond to south there is a two storey part with a segment headed door to north and large flat headed arch to south with segment headed window above. Attached to west side is a four bay range of cowsheds, which has stone rubble rear wall and four brick piers to the front. Two western bays are now filled in with glazed screens.
