Description

This record has been generated from an "old county number" (OCN) scheduling record. These are monuments that were not reviewed under the Monuments Protection Programme and are some of our oldest designation records. As such they do not yet have the full descriptions of their modernised counterparts available. Praemonstratensian Abbey ruins-12th century. Ruins consist of foundations of the E end of the church and cloister with the E wall containing the full stone framing of the Great E window, tracery gone. Excavated 1879-80. Masonry covered in short grass except in chapterhouse area where an old timber shed covers masonry, effigies and pieces of tracery excavated in the 19th Century. The site requires infilling and rapid consolidation of E wall/window as masonry is near to total collapse. <2> SOURCES = Desc text/AMOW819////<1>; Desc text/AM107/Hart CR/1984//<2>
