WHALEY BRIDGE OLD ROAD 1. 5172 (West Side) Carr Cottage SK 0180 2/30 II GV 2. C17 origins, 2 builds, altered. Mainly of 3 storeys, rough rendered on coursed stone with 3 later chimneys, stone slate roof. Irregular fenestration with some glazing bars. Welsh slates to penticed extension to the left. Modern fenestration to front elevation. Probably the Carr Cottage mentioned by Mrs G Linnaeus Banks in her late C19 novel 'The Manchester Man'.
