Description

'SK 08 SW 3/11 21.4.67 TOWN OF CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH BRADSHAW HALL LANE (West Side) Bradshaw Hall Gateway (formerly listed as Gateway at Bradshaw Hall) GV II Gateway. 1620. Ashlar and rock-faced gritstone. Approximately 12 feet wide and 18 feet high. 1620 arch placed on C19 rock-faced piers of approximately 6 feet high. North side of arch has deeply chamfered semi-circular arch with moulded dripmould over. Plain spandrels. To either side, a pair of fluted, shouldered pilasters, with plain capitals with incised fan decoration, those to edge of arch stepped back. Above moulded stringcourse, with fluted and gabled frieze over. Moulded cornice above, stepped up in centre over plaque, decorated with coat of arms below and above inscribed '1620 Francis Bradshawe'. Cornice, two bands of mouldings, stepping back. The whole surmounted by low stepped copings with finials to sides and on top. South side similar except plaque which has different coat of arms, with a deer above. Listing NGR: SK0386280742.'
