Description

Farmhouse, now three cottages. Late C17 and late C18 with C20 alterations and addition. Narrow coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and stone slate roof with coped gables and kneelers. Stone ridge stacks with watertabling. PLAN: baffle-entry 2-unit range with a rear service wing and a 2-unit cross wing to right. EXTERIOR: 2 storey. Quoins. Church Street front has irregular 3 window range, gable end to right. Original off-centre doorway now blocked with massive stone lintel, to left doorway in flush ashlar surround with beyond single 3-light casement in similar surround. To right single 2-light casement, single doorway in flush ashlar surround and beyond 3-light chamfered mullion window with tiny central sash. Above to left single 3-light mullion window in flush ashlar surround, to right single 4-light chamfered mullion window, both at eaves level, and beyond another 4-light chamfered mullion window in gable. Right return to Old Cross has regular 2 window range. Doorway to right with C20 door and to left two C20 casements in ashlar surrounds, above two 3-light chamfered mullioned windows. C20 single storey lean-to at right with single C20 casement. Rear, gabled wing to right has chamfered stone door surround, and single 3-light chamfered mullion window to each floor of end wall. C20 fenestration elsewhere. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK0419294827
