OLD HALL SQUARE, Hadfield (South West side) Old Hall (Formerly Listed as: OLD HALL SQUARE, Hadfield (South West side) Nos.9, 15 AND 17 Hadfield Old Hall) Formerly known as: Nos.3, 6, 15 AND 17 HALL FOLD OFF OLD HALL SQUARE Hadfield. House. 1646 with late C17 addition and C20 alterations. Narrow coursed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and stone slate roof with coped gables and kneelers. 2 brick ridge stacks and single end stack. PLAN: 3 unit single depth house plan with later kitchen wing added to rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Plinth and flush ashlar quoins. Street front has 3 windows. Off-centre doorway with plank door and chamfered 4-centre arched ashlar surround with Tudor hoodmould and massive lintel inscribed:- 'CH/ TA 1646'. To left 2-light chamfered mullion window with Tudor hoodmould and to right similar 5-light and lower 3-light mullion windows. Beyond single blocked doorway. Above two 3-light chamfered mullion windows and to left similar 2-light window all at eaves level. Left return has 4-light chamfered mullion window with Tudor hoodmould and above 3-light chamfered mullion window. Right return: reordered C20. Rear main range has off-centre doorway with C20 glazed door and to right 4-light chamfered mullion window and to left similar 2-light window, both with Tudor hoodmoulds. Above 3-light chamfered mullion window to right and 2-light casement to left. Rear wing, side front has 4-light chamfered mullion window with Tudor hoodmould and above 3-light casement in chamfered surround. Gable end has doorway with flush ashlar surround and plank door with single casement to right and single casement above. INTERIOR: has stone flag floors. Principal room with pronounced ovolo moulded beams with small chamfer stops. Similar beams to parlour and kitchen. Listing NGR: SK0208596158
