Description
Previously Grade II Listed:
'C16/C17 substantially timber framed former farmhouse, the box frame brick clad in the C18. The house, on the west side of the farmyard, is built on an L plan with cross gabled wing: 2 storeys, attics and cellars and with a late C18 single and 2-storey extension to east. Part of the original stone plinth, to timber frame, is exposed in the south west corner. Large external stone chimney stack to east end and stone plinth to west end chimney stack. Gable end tiled roofs. The south front has 2 window bays (one to cross wing) and doorway in angle. Windows had C19 three-light wood casements, Entrance gives into central lobby. Interior has box framed cross walls, the rails grooved and with 2 pieces of stone slab infill still in situ (cf "The Peacock", Chesterfield); otherwise later rush and plaster facing to walls. Fine C17 dog leg to staircase, solid string with turned balusters and moulded handrail rising full height of building with a moulded and stop chamfered newel post also running from cellar to attics. East room, ground floor, has C17 stop chamfered ceiling beam and heavily moulded fireplace bressumer, the jambs….'
