Milestone near Wigwell, B5035, Wirksworth, an early to mid-19th century structure. Grade II listed milestone at Wigwell, of probable early 19th century date. The milestone has splayed sides, one of which is inscribed "TO / ALFRETON / 8 / MILES", the other "TO / ASHBOURNE / 11 / MILES / WIRKSWORTH / 1 /MILE". (1-3) From the National Heritage List for England: 'WIGWELL 1. 1839 Mile Stone 1 mile from Wirksworth SK 35 SW 6/116 II 2. Early C19. Stone with splayed sides inscribed "To Alfreton 8 miles; To Ashbourne 11 miles, Wirksworth 1 mile". Listing NGR: SK3025154364.' (4)
