Full Description

Isolated group of 8 cottages, occupied by 23 people, that was demolished in 1954 by Chesterfield Borough Council on the grounds that they were not suitable for human habitation. The origins of this settlement, known as "The City", are obscure. (1) The 1848 Brimington map shows an 'L' shaped building in this location. (2) It is possible that the site has its origins in late eighteenth century encroachment onto Brimington Common.(3)
