Full Description

Milepost, Kedleston Road, Weston Underwood, an early 19th century structure. 'An early 19th century, cast iron milepost to the south east of Weston Underwood village. The inscription reads - 'London 132, Derby 6'.' (1) 'The milepost was manufactured by J Heywood, Phoenix Foundry, Derby. In February 2002 it was recorded as being 18 inches wide, 8 inches deep and 32 inches visible height.' (2) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 24 SE PARISH OF WESTON UNDERWOOD KEDLESTON ROAD 2/106 (South Side) Mile Post at OS 293 425 II Mile Post. Early C19. Cast Iron. Triangular in plan with sloping upper part and back plate with gabled top. Inscribed 132/LONDON/ HULLAND/WARD/3/MILES/DERBY/6/MILES. Listing NGR: SK2932642500.' (3)
