Full Description

Milepost, Wirksworth Road, Windley, and early 19th century structure. An early 19th century cast iron milepost that has a triangular section at the top and is inscribed with 'WINDLEY / LONDON / 133 / MILES'; and on the sides 'WIRKSWTH / 6 / MILES' and 'DERBY / 7 / MILES'. (1) The milepost was manufactured by J Harrison of Derby. (2) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 34 SW PARISH OF WINDLEY WIRKSWORTH ROAD (South Side) 3/120 Mile Post at OS 313 454 Mile Post. Early C19. Cast iron. Triangular in plan with upper part sloping to back plate with curved top. Inscribed: WINDLEY/LONDON/133/MILES/WIRKSWh/6/ MILES/DERBY/7/MILES Listing NGR: SK3125245344.' (3)
