Full Description

Albion and Nelson Foundries, Abbey Street/Woods Lane. Only a single brick workshop survives of the Albion Foundry, established by Smith Bros in 1860s, one of two foundries on the site. The Nelson Foundry is now gone; originally housed Brown's Foundry until 1913. (1) "Albion Foundry (Brass and Iron)" shown on 1st ed. OS 25" of c.1880. Buildings still shown, but not labelled, on 2nd ed. OS 25" of c.1900, and 3rd ed. of c.1920. (2)
