Full Description
Three possible Q-pits, or white coal kilns, were tentatively identified in Ryall's Wood in 1984. The first was described as 'very ill defined, c. 6m across, 1.5m embankment (not prominent); very overgrown'. The second was a 'shallow hollow c. 3m across surrounded by a low embankment 1.5m across. Tree rooted in centre. Very ill defined'. The third was 'ill defined, circular, shallow, heavily treed and overgrown with an ill defined embankment. 3m across, 1.5m wide embankment'. (1)
