Full Description

Cast iron milepost, probably early 19th century. Cylindrical, on a cylindrical stem and with a top which is domed in the centre. Below the top 'LONDON 154' is inscribed in raised letters. Below, two panels give distances to various towns including Baslow, Bakewell, Buxton and Chesterfield. (1) Milepost. Another undamaged cast-iron milepost on the old Chesterfield-Buxton turnpike road west of Chesterfield. (2) Distances recorded on the milepost are 'LONDON 154 / BASLOW 5 / BAKEWELL 9 / BUXTON 20 / MANCHESTER 40 / CHESTERFIELD 3'. (3)
