Full Description

Broad Oak Foundry. The impressive 1906 brick frontage with decorative stone facings of the former Charles Markham works, for many years a major manufacturer of coal-mining equipment in particular. There is an equally ornate east perimeter wall with six pediments adjoining the River Rother. Unoccupied in 2000. (1) The footprint of the buildings is very similar on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 25" maps to that on the early 20th century 3rd edition, and therefore may include elements older than 1906.
