Full Description
The parish of Sutton cum Duckmanton includes the site of the former colliery village of Arkwright Town (in the area of SK426706) which was demolished and replace by the new settlement of Arkwright on the north side of the main Chesterfield-Bolsover road in the 1990s. No trace of the earlier settlement, which took its name from the Arkwright family of Sutton Scarsdale Hall, survives. (1)
Village not present on 1st ed. OS 25"; under construction on 2nd ed. OS 25". It is complete on the 3rd ed. OS 25", and includes a school, a hotel, a Methodist chapel, a cricket ground and an institute, in addition to the housing. (2)
