Canal aqueduct over River Dove, Egginton, built c1777. 'Canal Aqueduct (Listed Grade II). Brindley's impressive 12 arch brick aqueduct taking the Trent & Mersey Canal (SMR99002) over the Dove with keystone in the most westerly arch.' (1) From the National Heritage List for England: 'This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 18 March 2022 to correct the description and to reformat the text to current standards SK 22 NE 2/19 PARISH OF EGGINTON, OFF DERBY ROAD (south side), Canal Aqueduct at SK 268 269 (Formerly listed as Canal Aquaduct at OS 268 269) GV II Aqueduct carrying the Trent and Mersey Grand Trunk Canal over the River Dove c.1777, James Brindley engineer. Red brick with later repairs in red and blue bricks. Sandstone copings. Twenty three low segmental arches, of which twelve are visible, the piers with impost bands. Plain walls above with flat copings and no parapets. The walls curve out at the ends to square piers. The Trent and Mersey Grand Trunk Canal was sanctioned by an act of 1766, opened to a point near Stafford in 1770 and completed in 1777. Listing NGR: SK2686326928.' (2)
