Full Description

During the course of a small excavation carried out in a car park to the rear of Church Lane, Wirksworth, in the early 1980s, a metal object was identified in the ground by metal detector. It was not identified during excavation, however. The metal detector was later used on the spoil heap and a Northumbrian sceatta of Eadberht (c. 750 AD) was recovered, as was a metal buckle, c. ¾in square, now lost. (1)
