Full Description

Shown on Sanderson's map of 1835 as 'Old Pit' and 'Brick kiln', the former on the south side of Sawpit Lane, the latter on the north side. Connected to a wharf to the north by a railway (SMR 14011). (1) The coal mine is shown as 'Old Shafts' and 'Chimney' on the 1st ed 25" OS map of c. 1880. The brick kiln is not marked. (2)
