Full Description

'Colliery' is marked on Sanderson's map of 1835. (1) The 1st and 2nd ed. 25" OS maps show two 'Old Coal Pits' and a 'Shaft'. (2, 3) Presumably the site was still in use as it was being served by a tramway [SMR 11906]. By the time of the 3rd edition, a shaft and 'Old Shafts' are shown and the site is marked as 'Old Colliery'. (4)
