Full Description

A colliery is marked on Sanderson's map of 1835 at this site. It appears to have been linked by a short stretch of rail to a longer railway that led south to a wharf on the Cromford Canal. (1) The first ed. 25" OS map of c. 1880 depicts three circular features, marked 'Old Shafts (Coal)'. (2)
