Full Description

'Marehay Colliery (Coal & Ironstone)' is named on the 1st ed. 25" OS map of c. 1880. An engine house, several old shafts and an old tramway are also depicted. There was little change by the end of the 19th century but the site had expanded by the early 20th century, when it was known as Upper Hartshay Colliery. (1-3)
